This day marks more or less the return back to Bangkok. I planned a route to visit the White Temple just South of Chiang Rai, and then from there take a quick view of the Singha Park. There are some good attractions North of Chiang Rai too but these are best done if we were staying longer . If you want to see things more than just whats on the road then better to do some research ahead of time then can ensure you make the time to see these attractions.
The White Temple was an amazing site. The history of the temple is better know by it’s Thai name of Wat Rong Khun is a contemporary, unconventional, privately owned, art exhibit in the style of a Buddhist temple in Chiang Rai Province, Thailand. It’s owner, a well known artist designed, constructed, and opened it to visitors in 1997 as an offering to Buddha. This is a must see site, very nice, well build and maintained.
After the White Temple took a short detour thorugh some fields to the Singha Park. This is a tea plantation that is well kepts and made suitable for tourists. There are some attractions inside but its is a tea plantation.
After Singa Park then we took off along the route to Sukhothai. I took a road I had not been on before . This turned out to be a great route. Some very nice flowing roads, not so much twisties but rolling hills and bends. This starts as route 1020, and becomes the 1292 heading through Chun down to Phrae. The 1091 & 1120 from Pong to Phrae are just amazing nice roads flowing through the valley of the Yom River.
Stopping for Fuel and a coffee in Phrae, and then heading towards Si Satchanalai and onto Sukhothai arriving just before sunset. Before Si Satchanalai there is a spot on the route 101 that looks out Westwards across Si Satchanalai National Park. It’s a great spot to stop for a photo break and looks out across the vista with some awesome views.
