Prasat Muang Tam

April 3rd, 2016 – Only a 10-15 minute ride away from Phanom Rung is Prasat Muang Tam.  A small historical park with another Khmer Temple but this one is older, dating back to 10th and 11th Centuries.  What we found fascinating was within the outer boundary structures the inside gardens were symmetrical on all four corners, each with a pond.  It doesn’t require too much time to see but was interesting nonetheless.  Again like the other temples it’s also situated towards the East and Angkor Wat.

On the road approaching the park I couldn’t help notice this view so had to snap it.  It’s a small road leading along the river, enclosed by trees and in the distance can be seen the smoke billowing from barbecue stalls selling food in the tour bus and tourist car park.

We took a few photos of the grounds enclosed in the following slide set.

Wherever you go, Big Bikes never fail to attract attention and especially in Thailand.  As were were ready to set off a family came across asking for a photo and so quite happy to oblige the mother and daughter positioned themselves in to have a photo of a big with its’ biker.  Moments like this never fail to make me proud of being a biker.

And so now with four historical parks under our belts, an off road adventure on a sandy dirt road, and discovering a policeman who by night is a pizza man and dining out at 7-11 which is an experience in itself, we headed back to Bangkok.

It’s been one of the hottest rides I’ve been on in a long time.  Temperatures hitting the 38-39 degrees but it’s still been a great and enjoyable ride.  It’s also the first tour Alvin & I have done solely together rather than with our main group of riders and friends from Singapore.  As they saying goes when you travel with someone you certainly get to know them better, and I look forward to the next tour with Alvin.

Riding back to Bangkok is a straight forward bee line for home navigating the traffic and rigours of drivers who can’t see motorbikes.

In all in the three days I rode a total of 1498 kms, and below is a snapshot of the total trip.

  1. Muang Tam reminded me of the town of Mantova in Italy. The road on approach crosses a huge moat and then splits to the left and right. That was the first thing that crossed my mind when we were riding across the moat.

    Here’s a picture of Mantova:
